Missing Fairhaven Woman Found Alive

UPDATE: This article has been updated to include information from a Tuesday afternoon press conference.

FAIRHAVEN — Fairhaven police confirm that missing woman Anapaula Huggins — the subject of a massive search effort since she disappeared Monday — has been found alive.

Police spokesman Lt. Kevin Kobza said Huggins has no apparent injuries, but is being taken to St. Luke's Hospital for evaluation.

Huggins had been missing for more than 24 hours.

She was discovered at around 3 p.m. Tuesday, after being missing since taking her family dog for a walk at around 7 a.m. Monday.

Kobza said Huggins was found near the hurricane barrier in the Egypt Lane area, close to where it meets the bike path, on Tuesday afternoon.

After a press conference later on Tuesday, Kobza said Huggins was taken to the hospital to check for hypothermia or frostbite due to the cold.

It is currently unknown if she spent the night outdoors, as Kobza said police haven't yet had a chance to interview her to find out what happened.

"Right now, we just want to make sure that she gets the help that she needs, make sure she's okay," Kobza told reporters.

He said drone operators involved in the search found her when she emerged from the brush near the hurricane barrier.

Kobza said Huggins' husband was brought to the scene — and that she was still wearing the clothing she disappeared in on Monday morning.

The police spokesman also thanked all the agencies involved in the search and members of the public for their help.
