Connecticut Man Arrested After Late-Night Mattapoisett Police Chase
MATTAPOISETT (WBSM) — Mattapoisett Police arrested a Connecticut man recently after a motor vehicle chase that continued into Fairhaven.
The Chase Begins in Mattapoisett
On Saturday, October 4 at about 11:40 p.m., Mattapoisett Police Officer Ben Church was traveling on North Street to back up a motor vehicle stop when police said a blue Honda Accord swerved over the double yellow lines, almost striking Church’s cruiser.
The car continued traveling south on North Street in an erratic manner, according to police.
“Officer Church attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of North Street and County Road, when the operator rapidly accelerated and failed to stop,” police said. “The operator of the vehicle continued traveling west on Route 6 towards Fairhaven in an erratic manner, failing to stop for police units.”

Fairhaven Police Join the Pursuit
Fairhaven Police were notified of the pursuit and dispatched units to assist. Once the chase reached the area of Route 6 and Route 240, officers deployed stop sticks; however, the Honda continued north on Route 240 with deflated tires but still refused to stop.
The car eventually became disabled, police said, and came to a stop on Route 240 just before the on-ramp to Interstate 195.
Suspect Arrested, Others Released
The driver of the Honda, identified as Nicholas Kreidel, was arrested while the other three occupants of the vehicle were released.
Charges Filed Against the Driver
Kreidel is charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, lights violation and speeding. He was released on $500 cash bail and was arraigned in Wareham District Court on Monday.
