MIDDLEBORO — Part of Route 28 in Middleboro has been closed since early this morning due to a massive fire at a property in town.

Fire crews were called out to 581 Wareham St. (Route 28) just after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, and remained at the scene more than two hours later.

Early reports from scanner chatter indicate the fire is a large one, and access was tricky due to a number of objects on the property.

Middleboro police confirmed in a tweet just after 7 a.m. that Wareham Street/Route 28 is closed between Locust and Pine Streets due to a structure fire.

A Fire Department spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

This is a developing story, and further details will be added as they become available.
