This Is Massachusetts’ Most Common Type of Vehicle Crash
Does it appear as though there are more rollover crashes these days than ever before? Perhaps rollover crashes seem to happen more frequently because everyone carries a phone with a camera, and crash pictures get posted to social media, something that didn't exist not that long ago.
Rollover crashes can often be more dramatic, as it is fairly unusual to see a motor vehicle on its roof at your neighborhood intersection.
The Las Vegas-based Maguire Law Firm reported, "Rollover crashes account for nearly one-third of fatalities among vehicle occupants on highways. In the United States, rollover accidents are responsible for about 20% of all fatal crashes each year."
"Rollover accidents cause over 10,000 deaths annually, with a mortality rate of 3.4 per 100,000 persons in the U.S.," according to the firm. Approximately 66 percent of these individuals were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the crash.
Massachusetts Crash Statistics
The Massachusetts-based firm Michael Kelly Injury Lawyers says that head-on crashes are responsible for 69 percent of the fatal crashes in the Bay State, T-bone accidents account for 23 percent and rear-end crashes are responsible for eight percent of traffic accident fatalities.
"Many accidents result in rollovers, which are mostly caused by speeding," the firm said. "Twenty-one percent of fatalities in passenger car accidents and 36 percent in truck accidents were due to rollovers."
Massachusetts' Most Common Type of Vehicle Crash
The most common type of motor vehicle crash in Massachusetts is the rear-end collision, often caused by distracted driving and failing to keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
Massachusetts has a data portal for monitoring car crashes.
