How long would you wait for a reward? I can wait as long as it takes to achieve my goal.

I have always been fascinated by the functioning of the human brain as well as our psyche. Why do we make the choices we do? Can we learn other solutions to achieve better results? How can humans use forethought to attain a goal? All of these questions were answered in The Marshmallow Test: Mastering Self Control by famed psychologist Walter Mischel.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Mischel's book about the test he, other psychologists and graduate students used to address the age old question of nature vs. nurture, self control, will power and self distancing as well as other strategies to delay self gratification.

The realization that I arrived at upon completed this book is: "I think therefore, I can change what I am." (278) I have the power to change how I think, feel, and act in any situation. The question now becomes "Do I want to?"
