Marshfield Double Murder Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

MARSHFIELD — The man suspected of bludgeoning an elderly Marshfield couple to death in November has pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on two counts of murder and other charges.

Christopher Keeley, 28, appeared in Brockton Superior Court on Tuesday to enter a plea in the double murder case, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.

Keeley is accused of killing Carl and Vicki Mattson, both 70, at their Marshfield home, and of murdering their dog and stealing their car as well.

He also faces charges of misusing a credit card, larceny of a motor vehicle, and animal cruelty, and is being held without bail.

Marshfield Police responded to the Mattsons' home at 75 Gotham Dr. on Nov. 26, 2022, after an acquaintance of Keeley's asked for a well-being check on him, according to the D.A.'s office.

He had allegedly been staying with the Mattsons for some time.

Police found no vehicle in the driveway of the home, and were told that he no longer lived there.

Later that night, police returned to the home for a wellness check on the Mattsons — and arrived to find the couple bludgeoned and stabbed to death inside their home.

An investigation pointed to Keeley as the person of interest in the case, and he was eventually caught following his arrest in Miami Beach, Florida for an unrelated incident on Dec. 2, 2022.

Keeley is due back in court on June 29.
