Man Wanted In California Shot And Captured In Rhode Island

 Rhode Island authorities say a man wanted in California for a parole violation in a murder case opened fire on police officers who shot the man multiple times. None of the officers was injured.

Warwick police say 39-year-old Kenneth Cunningham was in critical but stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital after Monday’s events.

Authorities say a Warwick officer ran the plates on a suspicious pickup truck and discovered Cunningham was the owner and he was wanted in California.

A police chase ensued. Officials say Cunningham later abandoned the truck and fled on foot before opening fire at police, who shot him at least three times.

Three officers involved in the shooting were placed on leave pending investigations.

Details of the parole violation and murder case in California weren’t immediately available.
