Two Men Crushed by Granite Blocks in Norton Accident
NORTON — Federal safety regulators are investigating after two men were hospitalized with serious injuries when they were crushed by 5,000-pound granite blocks in a recent industrial accident in Norton.
Norton police said at around 10 a.m. last Friday, police officers and fire crews responded to Old Station Supply at 142 East Main Street for a reported industrial accident.
According to police, the outdoor and landscaping supply business was receiving a delivery of large blocks of granite when several of the pieces fell on an employee and the delivery truck driver.
The pieces of granite that fell on the men weighed around 5,000 pounds in total, police said.
Both men — a 53-year-old truck driver from Lawrence and the 39-year-old male employee from Pawtucket — were taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
Their injuries were described by police as serious but non-life-threatening.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified and is conducting an investigation, according to police.
