RAYNHAM — A man has died and four others seriously injured after a pickup truck crashed into a traffic light pole in Raynham early Wednesday morning.

Raynham Police Chief James Donovan and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita stated in a joint release that rescuers arrived around 2:22 a.m. Wednesday to the intersection of Paramount Drive and Rt. 44.

First responders arrived to find a Ram pickup truck had left the road and crashed into a traffic light pole between the Walmart and the Courtyard by Marriott hotel, with five people trapped inside.

Raynham firefighters managed to extricate the people inside the truck with help from members of the Taunton and Lakeville fire departments.

During what officials described as a "delicate extrication process," firefighters used hydraulic rescue and cutting tools, which took several minutes, to get the injured out of the truck.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

He is not yet being named, pending positive identification and notification of his next of kin.

Two other men and two women were rescued with serious injuries and were taken to various hospitals by ambulance.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, officials stated.

Rt. 44 eastbound at Orchard Street is closed as of 5:30 a.m. and is expected to remain closed until around 6 a.m., according to the police and fire chief.

The crash remains under investigation.
