Raynham Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest After Police Find Loaded Gun and Suspect Allegedly Returns for It

RAYNHAM (WBSM) — A Brockton man has been arrested on multiple firearm charges following a traffic stop in Raynham Tuesday afternoon.

According to Raynham Police, on August 18 at about 2:15 p.m., Sgt. Joshua O’Brien was on patrol and observed a black SUV traveling eastbound on King Philip Street going 47 MPH in a 30-MPH zone.

Traffic Stop Uncovers Suspended License and Speeding

Sgt. O’Brien was able to stop the vehicle and he identified the driver as Anthony Luma Auguste, 33, of Brockton. He learned that Auguste’s license was suspended, and that the vehicle was a rental that had been rented by another person.

Police then searched the area along King Philip Street and located a Glock 30 .45-caliber handgun loaded with 13 rounds on the ground about 700 feet from where the black SUV was stopped.

Surveillance Leads to Surprise Return and Arrest

Auguste had been allowed to leave the traffic stop after getting a ride from someone else. He later went to the Raynham Police Department to get the paperwork needed to retrieve the rental vehicle from the tow yard.

Detectives had set up surveillance in the area where the firearm had been found, believing Auguste might return to the scene to look for it. At about 4:15 p.m., they saw Auguste in a vehicle that returned to King Philip Street. They say he exited the passenger side and spent several minutes searching the ground in the area where the gun had been found.

Facing Serious Charges in Taunton District Court

Auguste was then arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlicensed possession of an assault weapon, possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of ammunition, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and speeding.

He was expected to be arraigned today in Taunton District Court.
