LAKEVILLE (WBSM) — Lakeville Police discovered about 80 Amazon packages in the woods early Sunday, with no idea where they came from or how they got there.

According to Lakeville Police Chief Matthew Perkins, the packages were discovered at about 2 a.m. on December 22, when Sgt. Shawn Robert was on patrol and noticed unattended items in a wooded area near 63 Bedford Street.

It turned out that the items were three large totes full of Amazon packages which Chief Perkins said were “spread out several feet into the woods.”

Sgt. Robert radioed to have an officer bring out a pickup truck, and the officers brought the packages back to Lakeville Police headquarters. They took an inventory of nearly 80 packages.

Perkins said there were no reports of stolen or misplaced packages, so the department contacted the Amazon distribution center in Middleboro and returned them there

The incident remains under investigation by Lakeville Police.

“I would like to commend Sgt. Shawn Robert for his discovery of these unattended packages while on routine patrol,” Chief Perkins said. “Sgt. Robert likely saved a Christmas headache for many local residents by noticing these totes and getting them back to Amazon, hopefully in time for a holiday delivery.”
