LAKEVILLE — A Lakeville firefighter and a resident were injured in a house fire on Monday afternoon that destroyed a Beechtree Drive home.

Both received minor injuries, according to the town's fire department.

The firefighter was treated and released from Morton Hospital and is now recovering at home, while the resident received a minor burn.

The fire department noted that this marks the second time in a week that a Lakeville firefighter has been injured at the scene of a fire.

Multiple 911 calls reported a house already on fire at 6 Beechtree Dr. at 1:37 p.m. on Monday.

All three residents got out safely, including the one person with a burn who was treated by paramedics at the scene and declined to be taken to the hospital.

The house was already engulfed in flames when Fire Chief Michael O'Brien arrived at the scene, and the blaze was threatening nearby homes as well, the fire department stated.

After putting out the exterior flames, fire crews began to battle the blaze inside the house — but their movements were hampered by a large number of household contents, and they were eventually ordered out of the building and a second alarm was struck.

Firefighters pulled water from Long Pond and tanker trucks from Lakeville, Freetown, Middleborough, and Berkley helped provide water.

Due to the narrow roads and close-set houses in the neighborhood, trucks and tankers had a tough time maneuvering to where they were needed, the department noted.

After regrouping and focusing on preventing adjacent homes from going up in flames, crews were able to go back inside the building and fully extinguish the fire.

All crews were clear by 6:18 p.m.

The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental, likely due to improperly discarded smoking materials.

Crews from Berkley, Freetown, Middleboro, Raynham, Rochester, and Taunton all responded to help.
