Lakeville Firefighters Battle Major Fire at Cranberry Barn
LAKEVILLE (WBSM) — A farm building was destroyed last night in a fire in Lakeville as firefighters battled ice and bitter cold in addition to the blaze itself.
The Lakeville Fire Department responded to Angers Conway Farm on Southworth Street at about 6:47 p.m. on January 23 for a reported structure fire. According to the department, at least seven 911 calls had been placed to report the large fire.
According to a department Facebook post, an occupant of a nearby home was alerted to the fire when he heard an explosion that shook his house. He then went outside and found a large building on the farm property heavily involved in fire.

Fire crews responded, including a special request for two additional tankers due to a lack of fire hydrants in the area. They also battled freezing conditions and ice-covered ground during the five hours they remained on the scene.
The building, a shop and storage area for the cranberry farm, was fully engulfed in flames but firefighters were able to keep the fire from jumping to the next building, a barn that housed horses and other farm animals. The animals were relocated, and there were no injuries to any residents or firefighters.
Multiple apparatus responded from Lakeville as well as apparatus from the Freetown, Raynham and Berkley fire departments, as well as the Department of Fire Services. Lakeville Police, the Lakeville Department of Public Works, MassDOT and Middleboro Gas and Electric also contributed support services.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, the department said, but does not appear to be suspicious.
