It's rarely a good thing when the biggest headlines from your NFL football team aren't about football.  That's where the Patriots are this week in Foxboro.  The problems they are having are character issues, which are the core of their football problems.  Don't take our word for it, though.  Take the word of the Patriots' head coach, Jarod Mayo.  He called his football team "soft" after their loss in London last weekend.  Mayo has since walked the comment back a little bit, but has still ruffled some feathers, including his predecessor, Bill Belichick.

LISTEN:  ABC 6's Nick Coit on the Fun Morning Show

Not really a surprise here, said ABC 6 Sports Director, Nick Coit.  Belichick has always been the type of coach to praise players when they did well, and lay blame on the coaching staff when things didn't go so well.  Well, things aren't going so well on Route 1 right now, but Coach Mayo is taking a different approach.

I asked Nick Coit if this might be a case of Coach Mayo creating his own bulletin board material to fire up his team.  "That is a possibility and maybe that's what he was trying to do.  We don't totally know, but we'll see.  Maybe that's just his style and his way to motivate guys.  Hey, if it works, good for him!  We'll see.

Patriots or Jets?

Nick Coit is not optimistic about Sunday.  He hopes to see further improvement from Drake Maye, but doesn't think the Patriots have what it takes to beat a pretty decent Jets team.
