It may be a sales tax holiday weekend, but some people in Wareham tried getting an even deeper discount earlier this week. Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh says in four separate incidents on Wednesday, five people were arrested for theft-related activities.

Wednesday night, police arrested 35-year-old Ruben Warenycia and 20-year-old Elisio Ramirez, both of New Bedford, after the couple allegedly stole cell phones from the Target store at Wareham Crossing. Police recovered two cell phones and charged the duo with shoplifting. Wareycia had four outstanding arrest warrants for various criminal charges, while Ramirez was also charged with operating a vehicle without a license.

Earlier that day at the same store, 47-year-old Sandra Fuller of Plymouth was arrested for shoplifting over $350 worth of merchandise. The goods were recovered when officers confronted Fuller in the store.

Another female that day was charged with shoplifting after allegedly stealing motor oil at the Cumberland Farms on Depot Street in East Wareham.

Also that day, police responded to the parking lot of Walmart in East Wareham, where 45-year-old Antonio Knight was found to be in possession of a stolen motorized shopping cart used by disabled shoppers. He was criminally charged.

Chief Walsh says none of the incidents were related.
