A ferret is OK following a crash in Wareham that left a vehicle on its side and sent a woman to the hospital.

Thursday evening around 5 p.m. firefighters responded to a ravine at the end of Barker Road. There they found a vehicle on its side in the water. Firefighters cut through the windshield to extract the woman, according to Wicked Local Wareham. The woman, who was conscious and alert, was airlifted to a Rhode Island hospital for treatment. Her condition is currently unknown.

A four-legged passenger in the vehicle -- a pet ferret -- was not injured. Wareham's animal control officer took the ferret into her care. The ferret had been running around free in the vehicle, Wicked Local reports.

WBSM has reached out to Wareham officials for updated details on the woman's condition and on the status of the ferret.
