DUXBURY — The former Chief Financial Officer of Middleborough's Alden Shoe Company will be forced to forfeit his Duxbury home to the federal government following his conviction for embezzling $30 million from the firm.

According to a federal forfeiture order, 64-year-old Richard Hajjar must surrender his home at 14 Ryan's Lane in Duxbury.

The property is valued at $802,400.

Hajjar pleaded guilty in May to wire fraud, unlawful monetary transactions and filing a false tax return after embezzling millions of dollars from the shoe company from 2011 through 2019.

He wrote checks and transferred funds to himself and another person from company bank accounts, using the funds to build his own wealth and buy gifts and luxury travel, including private flights to the Caribbean and diamond jewelry.

The former CFO also failed to pay over $5.1 million in taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.

At his Sept. 16 sentencing he was given more than five and a half years of prison time and ordered to pay over $60 million in restitution and penalties — and now it seems he will lose his house.

If no one else claims a right to the title — or if the government rejects the claim — the house will belong to the United States government by the end of November.
