Federal Grant Awarded To Acushnet Fire Department
The Department of Homeland Security is awarding the Acushnet Fire Department a $50,000 grant to install new vehicle exhaust systems at both the Russell Street and Middle Road fire stations.
Fire Chief Kevin Gallagher says the systems will capture diesel emissions from fire trucks and vent them outside, reducing the potential of firefighters and EMS personnel being exposed to those fumes.
The grant was announced Friday by Congressman William Keating.
