Fall River Police Arrest ATV-Riding Juvenile in Connection With Hit-and-Run of Officer
FALL RIVER (1420 WBSM) — A juvenile who was allegedly riding an ATV illegally on the street has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run of a Fall River police officer.
The officer, a 17-year veteran of the force, was struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop just before 8 p.m. on November 4 in the area of Robeson Street and Declar Street.
According to Fall River Police, a 17-year-old Fall River resident was arrested in the early morning hours of November 5 in connection with the incident.
Police said the juvenile was allegedly operating an ATV on a public street and failed to comply with police, and that when he attempted to flee, he allegedly struck the officer and carried him “an unspecified distance before ultimately knocking him to the ground and running him over,” police said, before the juvenile ultimately fled the scene.
The officer was then transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, where he was treated and later released.
The juvenile faces charges including operating a recreational vehicle on a public way, negligent operation of a recreational vehicle causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery on a police officer causing serious bodily injury, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
