Happy 162nd Birthday, Lizbeth Borden!

What a year it’s been for you.

Around this time last year, a new owner had just taken over your former home at 92 Second Street, and your longtime friend Lee-ann Wilber, who had been caring for that home every day for 17 years, passed away suddenly.

Then, there was that odd incident in which, months after her passing, a mysterious message appeared on Lee-Ann’s Facebook page. Nobody’s still sure what happened, except that it wasn’t from Lee-Ann herself. Did you have something to do with it, Lizbeth?

Of course, not everything was bad news, either. You made plenty of new friends this year, even if you are stuck in spirit form. People just can’t get enough of your story, or looking more into the murders of your father and stepmother.

Proving that you would have had what it takes to go viral yourself, your story helped our friend Amanda Millette gain a massive following on social media. First, she shared her experiences visiting your former home, and now she’s using her platform to spread the word of why she thinks you were innocent and have been unfairly maligned for over a century despite your acquittal.

We also think you two kind of look alike.

One of the tour guides at your former home, Phil Devitt, also got to appear on a popular comedy podcast to share your story. See, podcasts are these recorded conversations – actually, you know what, never mind. Just know it’s a really big deal. We’re also really lucky that Phil came to work with us here at WBSM and Fun 107, so thanks for sharing him with us.

There was also a new television special that aired last fall that suggested your family may have been cursed.

Your home in the Fall River Highlands, Maplecroft, was sold recently to a new family, and now three young children will get to grow up in the house you loved so much. Reportedly, the family moved into today, your birthday. How fitting. Watch over them and make sure they have the best life there.

We hope you enjoyed your day, Lizbeth. We’ll have a piece of cake tonight just for you.

Lizzie Borden's Maplecroft in Fall River, Massachusetts

UPDATE: Maplecroft's new owners moved in on July 19, 2022 – Lizzie Borden's 162nd birthday.

While the house where Lizzie Borden's father and stepmother were brutally murdered on August 4, 1892 may have recently been purchased, the home where she moved after being acquitted for those same murders is on the market for anyone looking to own a piece of Fall River history.
