Sell Your Old Jewelry and Help Restore a 100-Year-Old Fairhaven Church
Got some old jewelry to sell? If you do, you can help a 125-year-old Fairhaven parish renovate and repair its 100-year-old church building.
St. Joseph's Church in Fairhaven is hosting an "Unwanted Gold and Silver Jewelry" event on October 11-12 at 74 Spring Street, with part of the proceeds going to restore the church building.
Parish member Margaret Gray and Rev. Maiki Kamauoha stopped by Townsquare Sunday to discuss the fundraiser and the restoration work needed at St. Joseph's.

Margaret Gray calls herself a multi-generational parishioner of St. Joseph's. Her children are members of the parish, and her grandchildren also attend St. Joseph's.
"I really feel at peace when I'm there,' Gray said. "If something wasn't right, I feel I could go there and talk with people. I feel at ease there."
Why the Church Needs Your Support
Father Maiki (pronounced like "Mikey"), as he is known to most members of the parish, said two major repair projects have already been completed: window repairs and repairs to the church's bell tower, totaling about $700,000. The next project is repaving the church's parking lots.
"The parking lots have many cracks, and weeds are starting to grow out of them. I'm afraid our parishioners might trip in those cracks," he said. "So we're hoping to resurface the parking lots next month. That will cost about $100,000."
Church leaders are hoping to raise a good chunk of that amount from the Unwanted Gold and Silver fundraiser.
How the Unwanted Jewelry Drive Works
Marc Folco has 50 years experience working with precious metals. He will purchase your unwanted gold and silver jewelry, silverware and tea sets, and then donate 10 percent of the value of the total purchases to St. Joseph's.
The Saturday, October 11 session will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Sunday, October 12 session will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
Parishioners are hoping you can help keep their neighborhood church viable for the next 100 years.
