Fairhaven Board of Health Election to Get Recount

The recounts in Fairhaven have been scheduled for the Planning Board and Board of Health elections for Monday and Tuesday.

Both recounts will take place at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of Fairhaven Town Hall. In the Health Board race following a couple of recounts, incumbent Peter Deterra leads challenger John Wethington by 2 votes while in the Planning Board race, John Farrel leads opponent Kathy Melanson by 6 votes.

Town Clerk Eileen Lowney says that she decided to hold the recounts on separate days to avoid further errors. Last Friday, the Secretary of State's office announced it was investigating possible errors that occurred after polls closed. Spokesman Brian Mcniff said the office would not supervise the recount but has given the town specific written instructions on how to handle it.
