Fairhaven Police Announce New K-9 Division
FAIRHAVEN — The Fairhaven Police Department announced in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon that it will be starting its own K-9 Division.
A Labrador Retriever handled by Officer Jillian Jodoin will help find missing people, track suspects, and detect drugs like heroin and fentanyl, among other duties.
The new K-9 will also offer both officers and citizens comfort after a traumatic incident, according to the announcement.
In the coming days the department will select a pup from a New England Labrador Retriever breeder who specializes in police K-9s.
The four-legged officer will then be sent on a vigorous ten-week training program with Jodoin at the Bristol County Sheriff's Office starting Sept. 27.
"We also look forward to offering our K9 services to neighboring communities," the statement read.
