Fairhaven House Allows You to Live Out Your Hobbit Fantasy
I stand at five feet and three inches tall. My fiancé is just under six foot three inches and towers over me. Because of this, I do not consider myself tall by any means. However, I felt like a giant walking through this home.
Jenna Danielli of Re/Max Vantage is a listing agent for 2 Melpen Way in Fairhaven. She has affectionately dubbed this property “The Hobbit House.”
“It’s really something you have to see for yourself to truly understand,” Danielli said to me on the phone. So, I did. I made the trip over to take a look and was not disappointed. First off, you would not expect this home to be located where it is because there is a brand-new development surrounding it. It is the only home on Melpen Way, adding to a bit of seclusion.
This A-Frame home with 624 square feet sits on just over one acre of land and the views are something out of a dream. With a touch of Maine architecture to the house, it is very much meant for someone who enjoys the outdoors and the great wilderness. Sure, it doesn’t have a sink in the kitchen, or a shower in the bathroom, or fixtures on the sink, but who needs those amenities when you’re roughing it?
Re/Max is not entirely sure about the history of the house. All they know is that it is not as old as it looks. Built in 1954, The Hobbit House has three bedrooms and a sturdy balcony. With direct beach access, who wouldn’t want to create something special here? Personally, I thought it could be transformed into a unique Airbnb location. Someone could rent a “dollhouse cabin” and make some extra money that way. The clown fan in the kitchen really sells it.
“I really hope the person who buys this house ends up restoring it in some way,” Danielli said. “It would be great to see this place brought back to life somehow.”
