Dartmouth’s Schwartz School Hosts ArtWeek Showcase
There’s something pretty magical happening inside the halls of The Schwartz School this week, and it’s all centered around creativity, imagination and community.
On Thursday, May 14, the Dartmouth Meeting Street school will open its doors to the public for a special student art show as part of ArtWeek SouthCoast, transforming classrooms into colorful destinations from around the world. The theme this year is “Schwartz in the City,” with each classroom highlighting a different city ranging from Tokyo to right here in New Bedford.
Stop by and celebrate the talents of students ages 3 to 22 who attend the year-round special education program for children and young adults with multiple disabilities and complex medical needs. It's all about showcasing student creativity while bringing the community together in support of inclusive education.

More Than Just an Art Show
Worried about the rain? Not only is this event free, but it will be held indoors from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the school’s campus at One Posa Place in Dartmouth, and I'm proud to say that Fun 107 and myself will be broadcasting live during the celebration.
There will also be face painting, make-and-take art activities, refreshments from Jersey Mike’s and Blount, plus live music throughout the evening. Several local organizations and community partners are expected to attend including New Bedford Whaling Museum, Scouting America, Buttonwood Park Zoo, Gnome Surf and the New Bedford Art Mobile.

Volunteers from Bristol County Savings Bank (the sponsor of this art show) and Walmart will also be helping throughout the evening.
Celebrating Creativity Across the SouthCoast
The Schwartz School art show is one of nearly 100 events taking place across 12 SouthCoast communities during ArtWeek SouthCoast, a regional celebration highlighting local art, culture and creativity through May 17.
Families, friends and community members are all invited to attend, and parking is free. For many of these students, Thursday night is more than an art show. It’s a chance to proudly share their creativity with the entire community cheering them on.
