Dartmouth Police have recovered a sawed-off shotgun found in the woods.

In a written statement, Detective Kyle Costa says the Dartmouth Police Department received confidential information that led them to a wooded area behind the Cross Roads Drive housing complex where the gun was found.

The initial investigation revealed the gun was reported stolen out of Taunton.

Dartmouth Police Chief Timothy Lee says without the help of the public, police wouldn't have found the gun which "could have resulted in very serious consequences."

An investigation into how the weapon got there is ongoing. If anyone has any information, they're asked to call Dartmouth Police Detectives at 508 910 1775.
