Lorraine Poirier of Dartmouth loved the New England Patriots.

Even more than that, Poirier was a "die-hard" Tom Brady devotee who thought Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to be "a god," according to her niece.

Poirier was born in Franklin, Massachusetts, in 1929 and lived most of her life in Dartmouth. She graduated from St. Anthony's High School in 1947 and was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart, St. Joseph's, St. Anthony's, and St. Mary's Catholic churches over the years.

God only knows how many novenas were said and rosary beads counted by Poirier on behalf of the Patriots during the regular season or for playoff games, but no doubt there were prayers.

Poirier's niece contacted me last week after I had posted a story about the film 80 for Brady, scheduled to open at the Dartmouth Mall AMC Theaters on February 3.

According to her niece, Poirier was "a one-man woman" when it came to Tom Brady. When Brady left New England to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lorraine still cheered for the Pats, but like many New England fans, cheered for Brady, too.

Poirier was excited about seeing 80 for Brady, a new film co-produced by Tom Brady. The fact-based film is about four senior ladies who are over the top about their hero, and who traveled to Houston in 2017 to see the Patriots defeat the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.

According to her niece, Poirier gathered as often as she could with family to watch Patriots games and "baked brownies for my cousin to bring to game day gatherings."

"I can tell you now, she was sassy like those girls in the movie," her niece said.

Lorraine Poirier turned 93 years old in September and passed away the day after Christmas 2022.

Her niece said she plans to see 80 for Brady when it opens and hopes to bring a portrait of her aunt with her so that Lorraine might at least be there in spirit.
