The last year has been incredibly hard on everyone, and many brick-and-mortar businesses continue to struggle getting customers in their doors. With the rise in online shopping and the coronavirus pandemic doubling down on the reasons why many choose to shop from home, many stores, both across the country and here on the SouthCoast, have closed their doors for good.

The OfficeMax in Dartmouth is the latest store to announce it will close up shop on the SouthCoast, following retailers like Sears, Forever 21, and Justice that have closed in the last few years.

Dartmouth Week reports that, according to a spokesperson from parent company Office Depot, OfficeMax's Dartmouth location on State Road will close its doors for good on May 15. Until then, SouthCoast shoppers will be able to find great deals on office supplies as the store holds a closing sale with the entire store up to 30 percent off.

The Office Depot spokesperson told Dartmouth Week that the company "continues to optimize its retail footprint." Although the spokesperson did not specifically say why the company is closing the OfficeMax in Dartmouth, they did assure that customers on the SouthCoast will still be able to shop the retailer online.

"We will continue to provide our customers with the supplies, service and solutions they need at officedepot.com," the spokesperson told Dartmouth Week.
