Dartmouth Town Meeting recently approved a long-term lease between the town and the Dartmouth Cultural Center. Officials at the center located on Elm Street say the 30-year lease should mean a more stable future for the organization.

Cultural Center President Pauline Santos visited Townsquare Sunday this week, outlining the benefits of the long-term lease, plus activities and exhibits coming up in November and December.

How the Lease Agreement Works

"The lease kicks in on December 1st," Santos said. "Our lease payment is in-kind. We'll take care of all utilities. The town asked that we keep track of volunteer hours, but that's it. That's how we pay for our lease."

Why a Long-Term Lease Matters for Funding

"Having a 30-year lease gives us an advantage for getting grants," she said. "Foundations and other groups don't want to award money to something that might not be there tomorrow. Having a long-term lease means we're in better shape to receive grants to keep on operating."

Restoration and Membership Plans

Santos said the Cultural Center has lots of plans. The first is to raise more money for the restoration of the building. She's hoping some of that work can start in January and February. The center is also planning a membership drive to help bolster its operating budget.

Upcoming Workshops and Exhibits

A workshop and art exhibit highlight end-of-the-year activities. A wreath-making workshop scheduled for November 22 is already sold out, but instructor Debra Soares is willing to do a second event. The cost is $45 to cover the cost of materials.  Check out the Dartmouth Cultural Center website for updates.

Coming up in December is the South Coast Artists Holiday Show. "The opening reception is December 5th," Santos said. "The South Coast Artists group has more than 100 members, and we've shown their work for the past seven years. They have been very helpful to us."

Expanded Hours for Holiday Events

The Dartmouth Cultural Center is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., but during the South Coast Artist exhibit, the center will also be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is always welcome.

Hilarious Google Reviews of the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge

We've all been there. You think you've made it with a couple of minutes to spare, only to get caught at the red light as the bridge closes. Some of us turn around. Others wait. What most of us don't do, however, is take our anger to the internet — but apparently, several people have, and the results are both hilarious and relatable.

With an average rating of two stars on Google, our love-to-hate-it SouthCoast landmark proves that it's at least slow enough for those stuck waiting to grab their phones and pour out their feelings online. From glowing to glowering, here's what people have to say about the New Bedford-Fairhaven bridge.
