Coast Guard Rescues Four Fishermen off Yarmouth

The U.S. Coast Guard Northeast said that four people have been rescued off a fishing vessel that ran aground just south of Yarmouth last night.

According to a Coast Guard spokesperson, crews from the agency's Woods Hole Station responded at 11:52 p.m. Tuesday, taking a 45-foot medium response boat to the Tom Slaughter III.

The fishing vessel had run aground about a half a mile south of Point Gammon in Yarmouth and was taking on water when the crew was rescued, the spokesperson noted.

It is unclear where the boat's home port is located.

But last August, the Tom Slaughter III was seen taking on water at one of New Bedford's piers, according to the Port of New Bedford's John Ryan.

Crews from the Chatham Coast Guard station, Hyannis and Yarmouth emergency responders, and the Barnstable Harbormaster also responded to the Tuesday night incident, the Coast Guard spokesperson said.

No injuries or pollution from leaking oil or fuel were reported.

The spokesperson added that the vessel's owner is currently working with commercial salvage to retrieve the boat.
