Whole Foods Announces Grand Opening Date for New Seekonk Location

SEEKONK (WBSM) — An opening date has been announced for the new Whole Foods Market in Seekonk, the first of its kind on the SouthCoast.

In April of last year, we reported that Whole Foods was coming to Seekonk, and fans of the supermarket chain known for its organic selections were ecstatic. For years, they have clamored for a Whole Foods on the SouthCoast, with the closest locations in Providence or Hyannis.

Now, the company has announced the opening date for the new 40,000-square-foot location at 940 Fall River Avenue.

Whole Foods Market Seekonk Opening Date and Daily Store Hours

The store will open on Thursday, June 25, at 8 a.m. It will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Whole Foods Grand Opening Giveaways and Free Samples

On opening morning, Whole Foods will be passing out samples from Seven Stars Bakery and coffee from Wareham's Jim’s Organic Coffee, two of the over 200 New England-based suppliers whose products are featured in Whole Foods Market.

“The first 300 customers in line will receive a limited-edition Seekonk tote bag and a Secret Saver coupon featuring savings up to $100 off,” the company said in a release.

Community Food Donations and Food Pantry Support

As part of its grand opening celebration, Whole Foods Market is providing a food donation to McAuley House, “which makes regular surplus food pickups from local Whole Foods Market stores to help prevent food waste and serve the surrounding community,” the release said. Whole Foods is also making monetary donations to Doorways Food Pantry in Seekonk, Barrington Tap-In, and the Rehoboth Food Pantry.

Whole Foods Market Is a World Leader

Whole Foods was founded in 1980 in Austin, Texas and has grown to become “the world’s leading natural and organic foods retailer and first certified organic national grocer in the United States,” according to the release. There are now more than 550 stores across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. Online retailer Amazon purchased Whole Foods Market in 2017 for $13.7 billion.
