With plenty of snow still on the ground and more on the way this weekend, the City Council is looking at all possible options to remove it from city streets.

During Thursday's meeting, Ward Six Councilor Joe Lopes filed a request for the city to look at the possibility of contracting snow removal if it becomes too difficult for city equipment.

Lopes says there is no plans to privatize the work but use these services as a safety net.

Councilors spent nearly an hour discussing the cleanup after recent snow storms and the lack of heavy machinery on standby.

This proposal would provide equipment capable of removing heavy snow in blizzard conditions to supplement city crews.

Councilors will also be meeting with DPI Commissioner Ron Labelle later this month to discuss the city's snow removal procedures.
