WAREHAM — A 13-year-old girl has died after a dirt bike crash at the Wareham Motocross Park on Monday afternoon.

The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said that the teenage girl has been identified as Ava Pioppi of Carver.

State police detectives assigned to the D.A.'s office investigated the crash, which took place just before 3 p.m. Monday at the Wareham Motocross park on Cranberry Highway.

According to investigators, Pioppi was going southbound on the dirt bike track when she appeared to have lost control after landing a jump, swerving into a parallel lane with riders going in the opposite direction.

She then collided with a male heading northbound.

Pioppi was taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham, where she was pronounced dead.

The male driver was also taken to Tobey Hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

His identity is not being released.

State police and Wareham police continue to investigate the crash.
