DARTMOUTH — In partnership with UMass Dartmouth, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office is bringing Free Family Field Day back to the SouthCoast this weekend.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III’s office, in partnership with UMASS Dartmouth Athletics and the Charlton College of Business will once again host our annual Free Family Field Day this Sunday.

This year’s event will feature dozens of fun outdoor family activities, a petting zoo, food tents and free sports bags for all families in attendance.  Some of the activities include football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer and golf contests.  The DA’s Office will also be hosting traditional backyard family games, a corn hole, a can jam and dodgeball games.  The event will also be home to a 64-foot inflatable obstacle course, bat races, a tug of war, a potato sack race, three-legged races, hula hoop contests, live music and a giant volleyball game.

Community Liaison for the DA’s Office and former Red Sox pitcher Brian Rose says it’s one of the biggest events of the year the DA’s Office organizes for the community.

“It’s more of a fun filled event because day in and day out at the DA’s Office you have to prosecute criminals or people accused of crimes and this is a way of working our prevention aspect,” Rose said on the Phil Paleologos Show Thursday morning.

“Getting families to come together, spend time together and we show you all different kinds of things to do that’s fun, healthy and nutritious. We’ll have food stations and stuff for kids ages two to 72. You should see the age differences on my sign-up sheets. Several food vendors will also be on hand and a resource section will be set up with informational tables for local service providers.”

The event is open to the general public and will be completely free for all to attend.

“We’re bringing local businesses together as well. We’ll have a resource section that will have a ton of people there for different services from Fall River to New Bedford, Westport, Dartmouth and Fairhaven,” added Rose.

The free event will be held on Sunday, September 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at UMASS Dartmouth Cressy Field, located at 285 Old Westport Road in Dartmouth.

Co-sponsors for the event include Taunton Federal Credit Union and SouthCoast Entertainment.
