Bristol Community College is moving their Taunton campus to the Silver City Galleria.

The plan was formally announced at the mall during a press conference on Friday.

College President Jack Sbrega said that once the campus opens it will provide opportunities for both the students and the businesses in the mall.

“There will be opportunities for internships and working apprenticeships and working with the owners of the various vendors here in the mall,” said Sbrega “and we’re very excited about the workforce development that we’ll be able to do, training their employees, as well as our students.”

Barney McAuley, a Managing Partner with Tricom Real Estate Group, says that the shopping center will be able to provide many of the facilities a college like BCC needs without any expense to the school.

“The students will have the opportunity to go to class with free Wi-Fi, so you get to study and access their different programs, there’s obviously shopping and dining,” said McAuley  “so all those facilities that BCC would have to build if they were in another campus are already here.”

Mayor Thomas Hoye also welcomed the move, saying he’s glad the city’s relationship with the school will be maintaining a presence in Taunton.

“I think it’s a great addition here at the mall,” said Hoye “we’re just happy that the partnership between Bristol Community College, the Taunton Public Schools, and the City of Taunton is able to continue and offer a higher education presence here for our residents and surrounding residents.”

School officials say they hope to have the campus open by summer of this year.
