Barnstable Police Arrest Hyannis Man on Child Pornography Charges
BARNSTABLE (WBSM) — A Hyannis man was arrested by Barnstable Police Tuesday on child pornography charges.
According to police, Joseph Madera, 65, was arrested and charged on October 8 with dissemination of child pornography and dissemination of visual material of a child in a state of nudity.
A warrant was executed at his home in connection with an investigation by Barnstable Police detectives with assistance from the U.S. Secret Service Cyber Fraud Task Force.
“The search warrant was the result of a CyberTip received by the Massachusetts State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that was assigned to a task force officer from the Barnstable Police Department,” Barnstable Police said.
“The CyberTip provided an address where a person was allegedly distributing child pornography using a digital device in their home,” police said. “An investigation revealed that person to be Madera.”
Police said at least one digital device was found to have both photos and video of child pornography, as well as an application used to distribute child porn.
Madera was arrested on October 8 and then was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on October 9. He will have a probable cause hearing on November 7.
The investigation is ongoing as police are examining several digital devices seized from Madera’s home.
