A 20-year-old Attleboro woman already in custody for the stabbing injury of a man is now charged in connection with the stabbing death of the man's wife.

Kayla Cantu was due to be arraigned today on a single murder charge in connection with the fatal stabbing of 28-year-old Kimberly Duphilily. Cantu is currently being held on $25,000 bail for assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with the stabbing injury of 28-year-old Jacob Duphily.

Prosecutors allege that on the afternoon of Sept. 11, Cantu and the Duphily couple were inside an apartment at 6 Leroy Street. A fight broke out between the two women and the altercation moved outdoors. When Jacob Duphily approached the two women, Cantu allegedly swung a knife at him and slashed his face. She also allegedly stabbed Kimberly Duphily twice, and Duphily was later declared dead at a local hospital.

Cantu allegedly fled the scene and told a police officer working a detail that she had been stabbed. Although she did sustain knife wounds to her hand, prosecutors allege that's because the knife slipped in her hand.

The investigation into the homicide and the facts and circumstances surrounding it are still being actively investigated by Homicide Unit prosecutors, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to this office, and Attleboro Police detectives.

Prosecutors believe the fight was prompted by a disagreement over stolen drugs and money, according to Gregg Milioite, spokesperson for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
