ATTLEBORO (WBSM) — A serious multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Attleboro this morning sent three people to the hospital.

Emergency Crews Respond to Early Morning I-95 Crash

According to a release from Chief Scott T. Lachance, the Attleboro Fire Department was dispatched to I-95 North near Mile Marker 4 at about 5:35 a.m. today for a report of a motor vehicle crash with people trapped.

Firefighters Use Hydraulic Tools to Free Trapped Victim

Crews arrived to find that three vehicles had been involved in the crash. One was in the median, while the other two were on the shoulder of the highway. Firefighters had to use hydraulic tools to pull a woman in her 30s from one of the vehicles. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Other Patients Transported to Area Hospitals

The release said a second vehicle was found off the road in a snowbank among a patch of trees. Firefighters removed the trees and branches and were able to pull out the driver, a man in his 20s. He was also taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

A woman in her 50s was able to exit her vehicle on her own. She was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro with injuries that were not life-threatening.

"We were receiving multiple calls reporting this crash at different locations along the highway," District Chief Michael Maitland said. "Out of an abundance of caution, we deployed additional crews along with Massachusetts State Police to check other areas of I-95 to ensure there were no additional incidents. No other crashes were found. Our firefighters operated quickly and methodically in challenging conditions to safely reach and remove the trapped occupants and ensure everyone received medical attention."

Officials Investigate Cause of Multi-Vehicle Crash

The crash remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.
