Never before has the topic of health and healthcare been more important to more people. To help get health information out to our audience, we decided to team up with AccentCare Home Health in Fall River, Westwood and Methuen.

We invited one of the nurses from AccentCare's Fall River location, Rochelle Allen, to join Phil Paleologos in-studio yesterday morning. One of the topics that Allen is very concerned about, obviously, is COVID-19. Specifically, Allen said it is disturbing to see how many people are delaying important surgeries because they are afraid of catching the virus.

“The word elective surgery leads you to believe it’s not necessary. Most are deferred but necessary,” Allen said. “Elective surgeries are back open, and we highly recommend people don’t keep putting surgeries off that are necessary. We’ve learned a lot and have learned how to protect people.”

And she said AccentCare has the resources to help during this pandemic.

“When COVID first hit, I read an article about too many people dying at home, and I thought we have to do something about that, about getting to the people that are isolated,” she said.

Allen said AccentCare can offer many services remotely.

“We have technologies that, once we set up care, we can put a telemonitor in,” she said, noting they can monitor all vital signs remotely that way. “We can also do a remote visit virtually and pipe the doctors in.”

“It’s all covered by insurance, so there’s no reason people aren’t getting the care,” she said.

She said that they are still also able to come into the house and provide the health care that is necessary both before and after surgery. The home healthcare allows patients of all ages the recover from surgery from the comfort of their homes without worrying about being exposed to the risks a hospital setting can bring.
