Support the Azorean Maritime Heritage Society on Saturday, April 28 from 6 to 9 pm at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. The Sails of Portugal Wine and Food Tasting event will feature delicious Portuguese food, wine, dessert, and espresso coffee from local restaurants and a silent auction in the beautiful Harbor View Gallery.

The Azorean Maritime Heritage Society (AMHS) promotes Azorean culture and shared whaling heritage by raising awareness and pride within New England’s Azorean-American community. Founded in 1997, the Society is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Funds raised from this event will support AMHS water activities (including our International Regatta), cultural programming and their scholarship fund. Every four years, crews from the Azores travel to New Bedford for the regatta for rowing and sailing races in Clarks Cove. There are only 63 Azorean whaleboats remaining in the world. Three of those Azorean whaleboats -- the only three in the United States -- are in New Bedford and maintained by AMHS.

For tickets, please click HERE or purchase in person at Luzo Auto Center, 19 County St., New Bedford. Limited tickets will also be available at the door. With questions, contact Robyn Branco at (508) 965-0205 or email azoreanwhaleboats@gmail.com.

Around Town With Phil is brought to you as a public service by Flagship Insurance.
