It may be true that a New Bedford 18 year old has some competency issues. After all, looks can be deceiving. Alexander Mills is accused of ruthlessly murdering a New Bedford cab driver Saturday November 28. How savage? How 'bout planting a bullet in Donald DePina from behind. Then, Mills is alleged to have hopped out of DePina's cab and firing another round into DePina before yanking the lifeless body out of the cab, going through his pockets, taking DePina's wallet, then trying to use Donald's credit cards.

The defense stated they aren't arguing the facts of the District Attorney's summary. Did I mention the defense statement came before Prosecutor Patrick Bomberg's careful articulation of the gruesome details? No real surprise surprise by the defense attorney--considering all of the video footage that fingers Mills like a fox in a hen house.

Guess what? Mills is the victim. Yeah, the ole my client may not be competent to stand trial plea is at work here. After a brief evaluation the judge ordered Mills held at Bridgewater State Hospital for further psychological/competency tests.

Interesting, Mr. Mills has a record longer than your Cumberland Farms grocery list. Did the kid ever claim he heard voices prior to Saturday night? Did the so-called hallucinations tell him to commit armed assault a couple of years ago? Did the little birdie tell General Mills to escape from a group home in Fall River? But, I guess voices, no doubt excerpts from some rap song, said ride in a cab to Brooklawn Park, shoot a defenseless disabled veteran in the head, from behind, then hijack his money. Good call Mr. Defense Attorney.

Faced with a court counselor describing Mills as a mixed bag: tearful, claiming her client says he suffers from PTSD, no signs of bi-polar, understanding the difference between 12 year in prison and 6 years in prison with 6 years release, an 18 year old with no thought disorder. Faced with this mixed bag, Judge Brackett made the correct motion. She ordered the adult Alexander Mills held without bail at the Bridgewater State puzzle palace. Correct move--because this punk needs to be monitored at all times, during evaluation and at play time. I forgot to mention, Mills told the Forsenic Psychologist he knows Walpole and Shirley. Figures, the penal colonies. Another surprise, aye?

If by chance, if by chance, R-E-A-D if by chance Mills is found incompetent to stand trial, I say let the video footage of his heinous acts do the talking. Court martial General Mills, to a life studying puzzles with no possibly of parole. Let him rot in institutional hell. Do not let this suspect/victim ever walk our streets or ride in our cabs again. That's so much more than what this executioner left the DePina family.
