FAIRHAVEN — Crow Island, a private island on the Fairhaven side of New Bedford Harbor with a house as well as its own beach, boathouse, dock and chapel, has been sold.

According to documents from the Southern Bristol Registry of Deeds filed on Wednesday, Crow Island has been bought by Acushnet company JenRo, LLC from local businessman Albert Santos' firm New Bedford Inc.

JenRo is a new company headquartered at 5 Archers Way and owned by Acushnet realtor Ronald Oliveira and Peter Jenkins.

The consideration listed on the deed document — which may not reflect the actual sale price — is $1 million.

According to real estate company RE/MAX Vantage, Crow Island's 2.3 acres hold a two-bedroom home that was built in 1920 along with a boathouse, dock, and a small chapel.

Accessed by boat several minutes from shore and located close to Fairhaven Village, the island used to be home to a radio tower, before the tower was destroyed in a hurricane.

The secluded property had been listed for sale since August 2021 at an asking price of $2.2 million, with several price decreases since then — most recently to $1.6 million last month.

It had previously sold in July 2019 for $650,000.

Oliveira did not respond to a request for comment on what he plans to do with the island, but the real estate listing notes that the property is classified as mixed use business.

This small, unassuming Fairhaven house was the boyhood home of Fairhaven's greatest benefactor, Henry Huttleston Rogers, and was even the home that had the first telephone in Fairhaven history. The house recently sold for $335,000.
