The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a Tornado Warning for Southwestern Barnstable County.

Officials say Doppler Radar indicated a severe squall line capable of producing a tornado.

Impacted communities include Barnstable, Falmouth, Yarmouth, Mashpee and Hyannis.

The National Weather Service says since most tornadoes in New England are obscured by rain and that residents should not wait to see the tornado.

They are being advised to take cover now.

It is advised that residents go to a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

Drivers are being advised to not take shelter under highway overpasses.

If drivers can't safely drive away from the tornado they are being advised, as a last resort, to either park their vehicles and stay put or abandon their vehicles and lie down In a low lying area.
