New Bedford Mayor Wants Loiterers to Scurry

On just about any given day, folks visiting the downtown district may see a group of people gathered outside the Main Library or City Hall on Pleasant Street. Now City Hall is making a push to move that crowd elsewhere, by asking those who provide free meals and shelter to relocate.
Maria Augusta was chatting with a few friends on the library steps, and tells WBSM News the folks she sees on a daily basis tend to be troublemakers.

Mitchell has already asked the Mobile Loaves & Fishes van team and the friars of Our Lady’s Chapel to relocate their meal programs further away from City Hall and the library.
Complaints from local businesses and non-profits and concerns over quality of life have prompted the Mayor’s request to have some of those services move.
