Runners from all over came to New Bedford for the 37th Half Marathon yesterday. They took off at 11 AM and the first runner crossed the finish line a little over an hour later. 27 year old Reuben Sanca from Lowell was the male winner with a finishing time of 1 hour, 5 minutes and 52 seconds.  He said that he was grateful for the support along the course. 32 year old New Zealand native Kim Smith was the female winner with a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes and 9 seconds. This is the 3rd win for the Providence resident, who stated that the course proved to be “a bit difficult at times, but it was a good run.”

Last year’s bombing of the Boston Marathon forced city officials to implement the banning of bags and taking several other security measures to ensure the safety of both runners and spectators. However, the increased security for the event did not interfere with everyone enjoying the day.
