Going Green: Massachusetts & Rhode Island’s St. Patrick’s Day Parades

Who doesn't love a parade, especially a St. Patrick's Day parade?

The list of SouthCoast St. Patrick's Day parades for 2024 is taking shape, and it looks to be a busy season. There are a lot of Irish-Americans around these parts, but you don't have to be a Fitzpatrick or an O'Toole to enjoy a St. Paddy's Day parade.

St. Patrick's Day is March 17, and spring arrives at 11:06 p.m. on March 19. So, even the non-Irish have plenty of reason to celebrate.

The region's first St. Patrick's Day parade is in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The 34th annual Pawtucket St. Patrick's Day Parade steps off at noon on Saturday, March 2, 2024, on Division Street behind McCoy Stadium.

There are three parades on Saturday, March 9, 2024: Hyannis on Cape Cod; Hartford, Connecticut; and Providence, Rhode Island.

Hartford's parade begins at 11 a.m. at the Capitol building. Tailgating is allowed.

The Providence St. Patrick's Day Parade starts at noon at Smith and Wyndham Streets.

The Worcester County St. Patrick's Day Parade is Sunday, March 10, 2024. The parade usually steps off at noon from Park Avenue and Mill Street in Worcester.

The New Haven, Connecticut, parade is also on March 10 at Chapel Street and Sherman Avenue.

Newport, Rhode Island's parade is on Saturday, March 16. The parade steps off at 3 p.m. on Broadway.

Boston's St. Patrick's Day Parade is Sunday, March 17, 2024, St. Patrick's Day. Boston's 3.5-mile-long parade dates back to 1737. It could attract a million or more spectators. The parade steps off at 1 p.m. in Southie.

Other parades on St. Patrick's Day include Abington (1 p.m.), Holyoke (11:10 a.m.), and Scituate (1 p.m.), Massachusetts.

Another parade is set for St. Patrick's Day up in Portland, Maine.

For those of you not into the parade scene, the 2024 New Bedford Half-Marathon is Sunday, March 17, 2024, St. Patrick's Day, at 11 a.m.
