The New Bedford Half Marathon returns tomorrow after a two-year absence because of COVID-19. The event is hosted by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.  Here's some pre-and-post race information from the City of New Bedford.

 New Bedford, Massachusetts – The pre-race program welcoming the return of the New Bedford Half Marathon will begin at 10:45 a.m. Sunday in downtown New Bedford, at the Pleasant Street start and finish area outside City Hall.

Speakers, a national anthem and more will lead up to the starting-line countdown and send runners off on the right foot.

Following the race, at 1 p.m.,an awards ceremony for top male and female finishers will be held in the Ashley Room in City Hall.

The traditional events will bookend the 43rd running of the iconic race, after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

Parking will not be permitted along the race route, and “no parking” signs will be posted along the route to warn motorists. In addition, the race route is closed to vehicular traffic.

Residents are advised to plan ahead, as traffic will be restricted from about 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mayor Jon Mitchell has announced that the City of New Bedford will offer complimentary parking at the Elm Street and Zeiterion garages and Whale’s Tooth Parking Lot.

Shuttle service from Whale’s Tooth Parking Lot to the YMCA will be provided between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m
