ACUSHNET — A high-speed chase that began in New Bedford wound through several SouthCoast communities before coming to an end in Acushnet.

The pursuit began in New Bedford Wednesday as the result of a narcotics investigation, according to a Facebook post by the Acushnet Police Department. At about 1:45 p.m. Acushnet Police were notified that the suspect was entering the town from Rochester.

The suspect reportedly tried to evade capture by parking their vehicle in the parking lot of the St. Francis Xavier Elementary School. An Acushnet police officer located the suspect with the assistance of police officers from New Bedford, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, with additional support from members of the Bristol County Sheriff's Office and the Massachusetts State Police.

Acushnet Police did not identify the suspect, but say the individual will face "a slew of charges in various jurisdictions" throughout the SouthCoast.
