The Elm St. railroad crossing will not be closed to traffic this weekend.

Freetown Police Lieutenant Steven Abbott says officials with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation have changed their plans and the closure will now take place between Friday, April 24 at 8 a.m. and Sunday, April 26 at 8 a.m.

Police details will be present to help mitigate traffic issues but motorists are being advised to seek alternate routes.

Lt. Abbott says the closure is being done so construction crews can remove and replace existing track and structure.
