New Bedford and Fall River Bridges Undergoing Maintenance Work

NEW BEDFORD AND FALL RIVER (WBSM) — Two of the SouthCoast’s most prominent bridges – the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge and Fall River’s Braga Bridge – are set to undergo shoulder sweeping on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the shoulder sweeping will affect traffic on both bridges.

The New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge sweeping is expected to take place between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday. Maintenance and debris removal will take place along the right lane curbs.

Also that same night, shoulder sweeping will take place on the Braga Bridge that connects Fall River and Somerset. That bridge work is expected to begin at 9 p.m. Tuesday and end by 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Massachusetts State Police will control the traffic on both bridges with a rolling roadblock, MassDOT said. There will also be signage and law enforcement details to guide drivers through the work area.

Drivers should expect delays and reduced speed.
